It is important for me to spend time in the mountains and fells that are the inspiration for my work.
The drawings and colour studies I make there reflect the immediacy of my experience. They record my responses both to structural and textural detail and to transient, atmospheric qualities. They form the basis for my finished work.
I paint in oils and watercolour and use a wide range of printmaking techniques
which includes etching, photo-etching, whiteground etching, screenprinting
and drypoint.
I also use monotype, an exciting and creative process with which I produce
striking imagery, capturing the different moods of the mountains and fells,
the fleeting effects of light and weather. My oil paintings build on these
qualities.
